Thunderbird Android (or also Thunderbird Mobile) is a fork of K-9 Mail, which is now maintained by the Thunderbird team.

As the mobile application doesn't share the same code base as Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird desktop, thunderbird-user.js template doesn't apply (there isn't even a support for user.js preferences).

Following #62 discussion, we'll be maintaining here a list of settings that one may enforce to "harden" their Thunderbird Mobile (on top of default settings) :

  • General > Display > Show correspondent names :
  • General > Privacy > Hide mail client : ✔️
  • General > Privacy > Hide mail timezone : ✔️
  • [Per account] > Reading mail > Show remote images :
  • [Per account (IMAP)] > Fetching mail > Incoming server > Send client information :
  • [Per account] > End-to-End encryption
